How do you insert and remove coins from Dansco style albums?

There are plastic inserts in front of and behind the coin. Those inserts slide out to the edge of the page, allowing you to place the coin into the cardboard slot, slide the plastic back in place, and voila! coin secured and visible!

handling coins with clean cotton gloves is best. You're trying to keep any new dirt or oils from your fingers getting on the coin.

The thing that gives me trouble is this: You purchase a coin to upgrade a coin that's already in your Dansco. For example, the slide is covering 5 coins in a single row. In that row, there are already 5 coins. How do you slide the slide out to expose the coins? You can't grab the outer edge because there is nothing to grab on to. If you push down on the slide and then slide it out, you scratch the coin. Hope I'm making myself clear, but probably not.

Tried these; way too cumbersome for me.

I understand. The edge is not accessible. Touch the surface of the coin? That's a no no. The question stands. How does one get coins in and out of these albums without touching the surface of the coin?

there are tongs/tweezers for holding coins, suppose you could use them. But be sure they are clean and don't use more force than is needed.

I am not really keen with the idea of sliding the clear stiff plastic cover over the coin.

Sliding the cover can make it electrostatically attractive to dust, which can scratch the coin it is designed to protect.
For this reason I use saflips or mylar / cardboard 2x2's in clear polypropylene (not PVC) album pages.
Rest in Peace

One tip from a LCS owner is use the eraser on the end of a pencil to slide the plastic out.

I usually work with one cotton glove and a bare hand. I use my finger on the bare hand to slide out then top and bottom slide. There's enough friction between finger and slide such that it slides easily for me. Then, I push the old coin out with the gloved hand onto a soft cloth. Then I replace the bottom slide and use the gloved hand to put the new coin into its slot. Then replace the top slide.

Exactly what I wanted to know! Thanks a million. Anyone have any other techniques?

I have considered using these as my fingers are not nimble from time to time trying to pick up a coin from a flat surface.

I think I would want to be careful not to slip on the coin edge and accidentally grab the coin surface with the tong tips with a jerking motion.

Thanks for the tip (no pun intended)

i admit this is one of the things I like about the albums made by Wizard Coin Supply. They have a thumb notch to make it somewhat easier to pull the sides out. I am tempted with my Danscos to use my wifes scrapbooking tools to modify the pages to be like the Wizard albums. I think it could be done to look professional.

I had no immediate plans since I am presently filling the Wizard albums - but now maybe I will give it a shot for the fun of it. I will post pics if it gets done.
