Greetings, I have a question about a 1970 mint set with two S mint cents in the Philly pack - one is a small date and the other is a large date. Anyone seen this before? Sorry about the picture quality, but they are definitely both "S" mint cents in the same cello, and I am fairly comfortable in idenfying the small date varities, since my main focus is Lincoln cents (not mint sets). I would need a photo. I have never heard of a mint set having 2 1970-S cents in it.

UH, well, ummm, yeah. There is no way to tell from the photo. But you are confident and you have them in hand. So who is to say it ain't so.

If you can provide a closer picture, we can verify the SD.

I apologize for not making my question more clear. I was not looking for assistance in verifying the variety, my hope was to hear from someone who had come across a mint set with each of the two varieties in the same cellophane package. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to respond.

I guess the short answer you will receive is no, Now question for you: which coin is missing from the set?

The P Cent is replaced with the second S cent in the blue pack.

Interesting. I am amazed that you have such a set, but cannot provide a better photo. If you could, you would have a very valuable set, that would be quite easy to sell. A quick ebay search reveals that a normal mint set with a small date sells from $50-$90. There is not a single one listed with the Philly mint cent replaced with a San. Fran. cent. You have quite the item there. Again a better photo would be greatly appreciated.

Just a thought. Can't the coin be easily switched making this an altered set? John1

I do not know about easy, but nothing is impossible. Which is also another reason a better photo would be great.

I am afraid to say, I believe this post is just a troll looking for a response. I find it very hard to believe that someone would make their first post about something this significant, then not provide ample proof to what they are posing. I have never in my 30+ years of collecting heard of such a phenom as this. I could be completely wrong, but I just feel that the lack of interest by the OP leads to the fact this is all a put on.

I again apologize for the photo. When a better one was requested I tried several more times, but all I have is my iPhone camera and it appears to want to focus on the plastic and not the coin. I'm flattered over the "troll" comment. I'm not sure what the reasoning would be for taking up people's time on something that was untruthful or inaccurate. I am a long-time Lincoln Cent collector and have PCGS certified large and small date cents for reference. I will do some research tomorrow and try to find someone to help me take a better picture. I owe that to the people who have taken the time to respond to my question. This is my first post because quite truthfully I have never come across a coin question I couldn't fairly quickly answer via ebay and Internet research. Thanks again.

Taking quality photos with a cell phone is not that challenging. Here is one I just took of a mint set sealed nickel. Ample diffused lighting is the key. This was taking with a 3 year old android.
