I just evaluated a group of coins yesterday for sale at an antique shop. A number of the coins had the original slabbed photograding that used to be ANACS when the ANA started stabbing. Is there any premium attached to having the original photograde cards with the coins? I realize the value of the actual coin is what it is but do the old slabs have any collector interest?

I would beleive that some people would collect the early "photgraph" slabs, do you have any images?

Any kind of older " OGP " so to speak is always collectible. to certain people. Even an original coin wrapper from a bank.

I think these are way cool and a definite piece of numismatic history, Would I pay the kind of premium that old PCGS Doily Holders or Old Regency Holders seem to command ? I don't think that I would

I'd would have liked to have taken some pictures but since the person was paying for the evaluation with the ultimate end to selling them, it would have been unprofessional to do before she puts them out for sale.

I would consider those original slabs to have a decent premium over grade, but they'll need to be exposed to a pretty wide buyer base to realize that premium. She'll need to get them in front of people who have specific interest.

Are these all ANACS photocertifcates or are there other companies as well? (You may have something I haven't seen yet.) Some early photocertificates are scarce to rare, for example INS photocertificates. If they are ANACS are any of them dated before 1975? ANACS began in April of 1972 but I have not seen any certificates dated before mid 1975. The very early ANACS certificate with just the photos and no text on one side are seemingly rare, I've seen only about half a dozen of them.

I didn't study them real hard when I looked them over but I am pretty sure they were all ANACS (I've seen those before) and they were all early eighties dates. I think when she puts them out for sale I'll go take a look and maybe buy a couple of the cheaper ones. She had mostly gold coins but there was also some silver and commems also.
