I just picked up $80 in rolled pennies from a want add I posted on craigslist. It was an older guy who said his kids rolled the coins in the 80's and he gave them cash for them but put them in a drawer and never took them to the bank. Hopefully I will find some nice clean 70's and early 80's for my roll set. Now if I can just find the time to go through them.

Oooh, good luck! Make sure to post us any pics you get of nice ones.

And . . . . keep your eye out for RB or even red wheats! I still get the occasional clean one from the 1960s, but after 50+ years of circulation the wheats are always, without exception, brown. You may get lucky!
Rest in Peace

Hope you have a " Red Book" to know what to look for or other resources to check for errors or varieties. Go for it!

I'm going to try to get started on these soon. I opened two rolls last night. The guy told me that he couldn't remember when his kids rolled them but that it was in the 80's or early 90's. From the two rolls I searched it looked like mostly 60's and 70's and some early 80's mixed in. There wasn't alot of BU reds like I was hoping for but there were a few nice ones mixed in. Once I start going through them I'll give everyone an update.

Does anyone remember the Sovran Bank? Some are rolled in their rolls.

Did you get them for face value? If so, this is about as good as it gets for rolls. Hopefully you'll find some nice 70-80's BU cents. Keep in mind the 85-D and 86-D BU rolls fetch good money.

Thanks for the tip! I didn't know that.
I paid the guy $90. I think it's $81.50 face value. I don't expect to find any rare wheats but I am hopeing to find some nice BU cents.

That's a fair price....be sure to grab all the copper out. They are worth 2.5 cents in melt.

I got through about half of the rolls this weekend. I believe they were rolled in 1984 because I found a handful of 84 pennies so far. Most are from the mid to late 70's with some 60's mixed in. The oldest is 1959 so apparently they pulled any wheats when they rolled them. Alot of the coins were dirty or covered in finger prints. They weren't worn much at all but dirty. I did find quite a few BU's from the 70's and early 80's to add to my roll set. 99.9% are pre 1982 so I kept all of them. Hopefully the next $40 will be just as good or better!
