Looking for your grading opinions on this 1901 IHC. Got it recently and really like it, really like the dark and light coloring. I know the photos could be better but it's tough with such a small coin.

Thanks, CCF.

Very little wear if any. I'd say an upper AU coin. Nice!

It almost looks like gold plating has worn off in places.
Look at the contrast of toned bronze to the gold color in the wreath.
I'd agree it's AU details, although plating is a possibility to my eyes.

Thanks for the opinions. Of course, if it was plated, it has major issues.

One thing that I found interesting when I bought it... I didn't know this when I got it, but it came in a Littleton Coin Company envelope from 1982. They sold it originally as MS.

So, when you say AU, what do you see that makes you say so? I look at the cheek and it looks quite clean. The second diamond to the top is weaker, though, but I don't actually see it warn into. One of the obverse photos does show what looks like a scratch of some sort to the left of the bust. I also feel like I have seen a number of coins with this kind of coloring pattern in PCGS/NGC slabs before.

Thanks again.

I see ware on the tips of the first 3 feathers of the headdress, the curl below the ribbon and the ribbon on the reverse. I'd give it an AU-53 based on the ware. I'm not sure how to access the coloration. I'll defer to those with more experience in this area.

It certainly has seen circulation more than cabinet friction. The colour is also a problem.A keeper all the same and a bit different.Interesting.
