I saw this Barber half at a recent local coin show and would appreciate some feedback concerning its condition and value. There appears to be some evidence of cleaning on the obverse.

Fore some reason I can't get the forum to accept the reverse image which is only 70k in size.

Hi Rick,

I like the obverse, but it's pretty much impossible to grade/estimate value based on the obverse pic alone.
Please add the reverse pic.

I don't see any obvious cleaning evidence in the obverse photo. Detail easily makes AU-50 IMO but unless there is more luster than what shows in the image it would likely grade no higher than that.

A PCGS AU-50 went for $299 on Heritage in 2011; in 2012 an NGC AU-55 went for $305 while a PCGS AU-55 CAC went for $329. Those prices all include the buyer's premium.

If this is a solid AU piece with original surfaces $300 would be a fair price for the seller to expect. I guess a good deal for the buyer would be more like $225-250.

Thank you for your feedback. As a new forum member, I did not realize that all image files combined could not exceed 100k. I'd like to repost this message with both images, but I do not want to create any problems on this forum.

I'm not aware of any total image size limit, just the individual limit of 100K for each photo. Maybe a moderator could help you out with this issue?

Your reverse photo shows a strong AU coin with good luster and no particular problems. There is always the argument that "no silver coin over 100 years old can be brilliant white without having been cleaned" and maybe that has some truth. However, if your coin was dipped to remove toning it appears to have been done in a gentle, market-acceptable manner. If you like this coin I'd see if the seller will let it go for $250. It will make an excellent type coin.

I think the coin does have some nice luster. Could make AU55.
It might be just me, but I don't see any cleaning indication.
Regarding the image sizes - I've uploaded 4 100k pics to one thread the other day.

Without the obverse, I can't be sure but based on the reverse it is very likely AU.

Looks like my problem with the images stems from using an iPad, which assigned the same file name to more than one image. In the future ill use a desk top pc. Thank you all for your feedback - I certainly appreciate it.
