1870 10 Cents Wide O Or Narrow O? - Coin Community Forum

The qualifier is that the right side of the O is wider than the left side, which yours appears to be. If it is, and in the condition it is in you have a $100.00 plus coin there. The scans really don't do it justice, though. For example, its nowhere near as dark as it appears. What reference book(s) would you reccomend for grading Canadian coins? . There is such a big difference in values between VF and XF I think it would pay to find out. Report this Post to the Staff

bromac Valued Member Canada 195 Posts	Posted 04/19/2007 5:53 pm I agree that it's a "wide 0". The guide I use is "Standard Grading Guide for Canadaian & Colonial Decimal Coins" by James E. Charlton and Robert C. Willey. I see this book often at shows and on coin dealer's counters. Another good guide can be found at https://www.coinoisseur.com there are some great pictures there to help with grading.I also agree with the VF grade. Bill Report this Post to the Staff
Zonad Pillar of the Community Canada 1472 Posts	Posted 04/19/2007 10:02 pm Another secondary marker which is common with some of the wide 0 but not known on a narrow 0 is the A's in gratia on the obverse are missing the crossbars!!! That's the one you have. Very nice. Report this Post to the Staff
