Yesterday, January 29th, 2013 at 11am, Downingtown Coins and Collectibles was robbed by an armed man wielding a large knife. He overpowered the owner and tied him up in the rear of the building. It is believed that the suspect, who has not been apprehended, made off with over $30,000 in coins and precious metals.

I have more info than the article does because this shop is the one I frequent. It is less than 5 miles from my home. I am friends with the owner and have known him for over ten years when I moved here as a young boy. I feel absolutely awful. This man is a stand-up guy in our community. I am just glad that he is ok and that the robber did not hurt him. He is very shaken up, but alive. He will be opening up for business again tomorrow, but things will never be the same around here again. I have noticed a huge increase in police activity and presence in the area since the crime took place.

Stay safe out there. You never expect things like this to happen around you or to you, but with our hobby the risk is always there. If you have any information on this case please contact the Uwchlan Police Department at 610-363-6947.

I think he meant the shop owner, concealed or exposed firearm.
My local guys here all carry. Never being robbed.

I am not sure to tell you the truth. He has never told me if he carries or not, and I never asked. If not he probably will now.

Right near where I grew up! Couldn't have imagined anything like that happening at Marchwood.

In that shopping center I've had my hair cut, worked out at the gym, and gone (with Mommy, of course!) to the liquor store, and if there was a coin shop there then, believe me, I would have been all over it. Actually, would have driven right by this place to get to the shop where much of my childhood collection originated.

The age of the robber caught my eye ! Given the robbers age I suspect the robber maybe a possible collector and there is a chance he has stashed the booty ....

If it were someone younger I would have thought kid depserate for a quick buck but older robbers , hmmm .....
