I think the planchet was clipped before the penny was minted. I have a Civil War token w/ a double-clipped planchet, too... Nice find!

I agree. It's a genuine double clipped mint error.

My honest opinion is that its not a genuine double clip. Again, this is just my opinion.

In my opinion, I think it was cut cut to the not perfectly round clips. If you look closely, you can almost see the metal flaring out at the cuts which would be the result from a saw. Now, I am not a professional coin identifier but, this is just my best guess. Still.....nice find.

There's metal flow at both clips on the obverse and reverse in addition to the punch and tear effect on the edge. I have no doubt that it's genuine. It is a bit confusing, though, since there is no blakesely effect.

I like to put pennies inside the clipped part to make sure they fit perfectly. I've never heard of a double clip, but it looks genuine to me.

I believe it is genuine. Clipped before striking. I sold one quite a while ago double clipped like yours for around $5-$7 on ebay.

I tried to put pennies inside the clips and they fit perfectly...this is my first clipped coin I have ever found.
