It was a $20 I was given in change at the store today. Sadly, the serial number was just a jumble, and the note was badly folded down the middle and was missing a corner the size of a nickel. Threw it back into circulation. I walked away reassured that star notes CAN be found in the wild!

As a random side question: $2 bills come in Star Notes too, right? I know I can find the info tonight, but I'm sick and distracted... so feeling lazy. =) Thanks for putting up with the laziness tonight. LOL

Oh yes they are definitely out there. As a cashier I see at least a few a day and most are not worth keeping. Yes there are stars for $2 also, just like every other note.

Star notes were introduced in 1910. All small size notes printed since 1928 have had star varieties.

I see star notes in the wild all the time. Could be because I'm a cashier. Like the poster above, a lot of time they aren't worth holding onto unless they're in great condition.

Yea, like I said this one was in really poor shape and had NO appeal for the serial number. It went back into the wild.

I am trying to deal more in cash to hunt through bills. When I dump boxes of coins I always do it in cash... but I might start doing it $2 bills. A few BofAs in my area say while they can't ORDER $2, if I call ahead they will round up any and all $2 in the bank and I can have as many as I want.

Third cashier for a hat trick!

I buy lots of star notes out of my drawer. Then--since I have yet to find radars or anything like that--I run the serial through the Star Note registry at mycurrencycollection.com and if it's a print run over 640k, back into the wild it goes.
