A friend of mine is selling this. How rare is this type of note with an error? I know next to nothing about paper money so your thoughts would be appreciated.
What type of error are we talking about here? If you're just talking about the face that the margin on the bottom is wider than the margin at the top, I believe that is pretty common and not actually considered an error.
I don't believe there is much of a premium here for this note as being an error note. But looking at the serial, it is from a run of 640,000 which may help with the premium. Jim
There have to be two different notes showing for that to be an error. It is also possible that the note is hand cut from a BEP sheet. Not sure on that one though.
I really don't see a premium for this $10 even if it is a star note. Your friend is advertising it as low serial number when that really isn't true. If this had a fancy serial number I could see a premium or if it was rated by pcgs or pmg with a grade of 67 or above. As it is, not surprised there are 0 bids on it.
The misalignment is not considered a error until part of the ink is cut off if its just not even then its not an error. But the star note does add a small premium it doesn't add as much as your friend is trying to sell it for.
