This professional seller calls a ST Gaudens one ounce of gold Can he really be a professional and that ignorent at the same time ? The coin is in the partner capsule ( as if they were sold with capsules in 1924) http://cgi.ebay.com/TOP-USA-Saint-G...OW_W0QQitemZ290106623050QQihZ019QQcategoryZ42726QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I am completely unfamiliar with these coins, but just from a quick look at the first krugerrand I would say there is a 99% chance that that is fake/plated, etc. I feel bad for anyone who buys this "gold".

I'm leaning towards it being a counterfeit. It really looks like it should have chocolate in it.

Yeah, it does look chocolate. I had been telling a co-worker that I wanted some gold coins. She brought in a little bag of those chocolate coins. The $50 US gold was delicious!!

The Australian gold Koala looks real but it never came in a bronze box.

My american friend said the blue box has the inscription Royal Australian Mint and that he does not know any other coins from that mint The coin is probably real but why not the Perth Mint ? Anyway it looks like something like the Franklin mint did or the US treasury mint

The gold Koalas were minted in Canberra but the box is a bit of a mystery. Maybe it was a special presentation although my book makes no mention of it.

so you are saying that St Gaudens is fake? or are you just making a statement about the seller calling it an ounce of gold

I am a newbie of sorts. How real are the 2 and 2.5 peso Mexican gold coins dated 1945. There are tons of them available it seems.

No I am making two statements He makes it sound as if the coin is sold in its original holder ( Like Monnaie de Paris sells everything in an original holder with certificate ) And two he states the coin weighs one ounce in gold which has a professional seller he should know is not true The coin is real enough The two gimmicks to get a better price are not acceptable

I don't know if it's even legal for a private citizen of any nationality to export raw gold (nuggets) from the US although it's such a tiny amount, it's likely nobody would care. I notice that while he gave the dimensions of the nuggets (2mm-5mm = max of 1/5" which is really tiny), he didn't give the total weight (I may have missed it).

Like so many of these vendors he gives no weight but he knows they are between 20 and 22 carat Now that is even kind of honest because some say 24 carat ain't mother nature obliging at 24 carat
