I found an old Buffalo nickel however it is so worn I cant even date it. I'm def going to keep it but I wouldn't even know where to start for a value or how to mark it for my records. What would you recommend?

Just for grins, post pictures here... maybe we can tell the date by other features. A closeup of the date/ribbons area may help. Also, you can ID 1913 type 1 by the ground the buffalo is standing on.

No dates are worth 50 cents I believe. And do what ThisIsfun said, check the ground the buffalo stands on. 1913 type 1 NOTE, see how ground drops at the end? This isn't my buffalo just a googled one :(

If we still can't determine a date and you must figure it out, look up restored Buffalo nickels. Although this will deplete nearly all value of the coin even if its a key date.

I was up all night looking over my 400+ acid restored dates...I found 40 1917, 1919 and 1916. They all in rows now. ( the three dates I listed) So when you post the photo maybe I can help see if it dates got a date.

Values for no dates average 20 cents each, give or take a penny or two. If I could get 50 cents each, as solotime suggested, I'd be a rich man.

I'm weak. When I find these, I HAVE to know. If you restore it, and its a key date, its still worth more than 20 cents. If you don't restore it, well good luck proving the date to anyone. That's me failing miserably at justifying my logic.

I wouldn't pay much or want a buff nickel that you can't see the date

Im started to look at it more and I think I could make out a 23 for the year.
Im going to try to take a close up so you can give me your opinion. If it is where would the s mint mark be if there is one?
