Hi everyone, I bought my first slabbed Morgan a couple days ago and wanted to hear what the CCF has to say. Thanks for your time!

Looks mint state and there are very few contact marks or scuffs. The faint marks on Liberty's cheek are so shallow that I don't expect they will impact the grade. This potentially could be MS-65.

Your photos however don't show any luster. That could be due to lighting, or if the coin has prooflike surfaces it can be difficult to capture the luster in photographs. Or, the coin may have been dipped or otherwise processed to improve its appearance which may relegate it to a "details" holder from NGC.

Luster is the most important property for mint state coins. The 1879-S Morgan in mint state is normally found with booming cartwheel luster and the fact that these photos don't show that is bothersome.

How does it look in-hand? Does it show a strong cartwheel when tilted under a light? If not, it will not qualify for a high mint-state grade IMO.

Your pics are bad and it hard to make a judgement. Because this date comes easy in high grade, I'm gna guess 65+-66

In hand it has plenty of luster. Probably doesn't help that all that I have for a camera is a smartphone lol. I added a few more pics where I had more light

I'm going to call it 64 but 65 wouldn't surprise me.
Rest in Peace

I'd say MS-63, maybe 64. The luster definitely showed better in the second set of photos. Nice coin!

With the slight friction in the cheek, I'd say its a high end MS64.
