Inspired by the fun of 'guess the hammer' for other recent auctions, I thought about the upcoming 1913 V nickel auction... some übergeeky thought... and decided on $4,836,350, approximately.

*******CONTEST*******

Show how I chose that number.

Prize package photos are on page 2 of this thread. Contest ends when someone figures it out. I'll send the prize package by Priority Mail.

***UPDATE 2/2/13 at 6:30 EST***
Summary of information/clues so far:
- My 'bid' is $4,836,350, approximately
- The bid was not derived from any traditional methods of coin valuation but the number is in the ballpark of reasonable for what the coin might sell for.
- A lot of thought went into this bid
- I'm pretty sure that when someone comes up with my rationale, he/she will recognize it as such even before getting my confirmation
- Yes, the bid has something to do with the coin itself
- If the coin actually sold for this amount, it would be way cool, or perhaps only if you are a nerd/geek :)
- NEW CLUE: think small!
- NEW CLUE: a certain clue appears on page 2 and page 3 and is not of my doing.

OK, Zack, but this particular contest is to figure out how I arrived at my guess of $4,836,350

Ohhhhhhhhh. Lol. That's what I get for skimming.
Hmmm, I'll guess....you just typed some random numbers and then put the commas in where they were needed.

Add all of those numbers up and you get 29. Coin will be auctioned on April 25, or 4/25. 4+24=29!

Noah-- no, but I like the way you think!
Zack-- no, I put quite a bit of thought into my guess. Not necessarily sensible numismatic thought, but a lot of thought...

You took all the previous selling prices and figured out the difference between sale prices as well as the time between between sales and figured that from past patterns this would be the next price? Lol.

Did you take the average of the sales prices of previous auctions?

Nathan and jlgaudlitz-- nope, but thanks for guessing and keep trying! You're going to need to really get your geek on to figure it out.
