OK, it's not a big set, but thanks to a trade with a fellow forum member, it's complete!

1856 doesn't count! It's just a pattern! There's no hole for 1856 in my Dansco! Some other excuse!

Cograts! I like them!

Always thought of this series as the "rebound relationship" series of U.S. cents. After a 64 year relationship with the large ladies and before we settled down with IHC's for 50 years.

(Insert random piece of information that proves that the 1856 must be in the set.)

Educate me on this. Why was this set so short and how does a coin that exists not count? Was the 1856 produced in the middle of the night and stolen out the back door?

No...that world be the 1913 Liberty nickel.

Basically since Large cents had been used for so long the gubmint thought the citizens needed edumication when we switched to small cents. So as a result the pattern 1856 FEC was made in large enough numbers and given out to congressmen to teach the common folk.

Congratulations to CaptainFwiffo for completing the Flying Eagle cent "short set." Patterns (1854-55) and samples (1856) not included.
