Hi All,
I collect world coins primarily but my LCS has some old Canadian coins that I hope can be used to start my interest in Canadian coins.

Now I know this is a general question and most of the time the answer will be it depends. However I need to get a general idea which coins worth start collecting. I like the old silver coins but copper is good as well given history to interest me in. So I would like to collect provincial coins just like I have been collecting German states.

I have seen coins from new Newfoundland, prince Edward island and bank tokens among the inventory. They are mostly copper.

What periods and denominations would you recommend to collect from these categories ?

Again sorry for the more general/broader nature of the question.

Take a browse around http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.php They have a section on NFLD coins as well. You can do sets of one for each monarch by denomination or whatever you like/can afford. I quite like the 50 cents with all the varieties myself. You can frequently get decent F-VF coins from the 40s-60s for the value of the silver.
