A Dryer Coin would be worn away at the rims. IMHO Something else did damage to this.

I think it may be some type of acid? I found this coin the other day in a roll It seems to have similar "pitting" but something going on around the denticles. Also flattened on one side. Looks like yours may be a worse case of the same type of damage?
