collect4fun Pillar of the Community United States 1151 Posts	Posted 04/20/2007 11:13 am I have traded, bought & sold coins with many great people here on the forum. A lot of my pleasure of coin collecting is wondering about the history of where the coin has been. In doing trades with people from different States & Countries I had a thought as to help identify where the coin has been. I am going to start asking people to send along with the coin either a picture or a post card of the area in which they live. If they can do this great, if not, nothing lost. I just think it would be an interesting thing to do. Report this Post to the Staff

For example, I grew up in PA dutch country, and I don't find it very exciting, yet how many of you have ever seen the "Shoe House" in Hallam (or York), PA? How many of you are used to seeing the Amish horse and buggies going along the roadside regularly? To me, they're nothing special, but to others, it's quite different. Besides that, what fun is coin collecting if you don't know anything about what you're collecting, or where it's from, or why they chose that design, etc. Report this Post to the Staff

On my last trip to see the folks my fiance noticed the yellow horse and buggy sign for the first time on a small curvy road. I grew up near Reading/Kutztown. My parents live very close to Kutztown Pa. I think I will remove the actual town name to keep anyone from thinking that I am trying to make a joke. I agree also, in that a postcard from the area would be really cool. But a digital picture that you can email would work also. You can always print it out and write on it and keep it with the coin... After I bought that token I was wondering why the arrowhead was pointing down so I snailed mailed the club asking them. The club Treasurer sent me back a letter explaining that there was a natural landmark on a hillside of an arrowhead and send me that postcard dated 1910. Report this Post to the Staff
