Spent several hours today cleaning a local elementary school. Not much left there me thinks. we will have to give it a year or two to reseed.

Nice afternoon out, any silver in there? What was your oldest find today?

How many kids go to these schools you hunt? It takes me 4 or 5 trips of 3+ hours each to find that much stuff and all the schools I hunt are at least 65 years or older. And as far as I know, I am the only one hunting them.

The average School size in the Houston are is about 700 children which I think is almost twice the state average. If you don't find much its almost certain the schools are being hunted by others. On a non hunted school we will average around $10 in clad and reseed time is about a year. on schools that are searched on a fairly regular basis then one or two dollars is the norm. There are areas of town we just don't bother with as there are too many people hunting. Remember I hunt with my wife. Both our Garrett's have excellent pin-pointers. From target to pouch is usually around 30 seconds. In grass I use a screw driver and just flip the coin out no digging needed and does not leave a hole to be filled.

Do you get any grief for hunting on the school property? I know it's public property, but if a cop or concerned citizen drives by, do they hassle you? Especially if they see you digging?

I live in a small town outside Houston and I travel world wide so I am in the police station pretty much on a monthly basis getting background checks for work visas. All the local police know me by sight and even if they might think I am crazy I am generally regarded as harmless. I have been approached by Houston Police but on the whole they are polite and I have no problem moving on if that's what they want. If my wife was not with me I would have a lot more problems Me thinks as I tend to look like a vagrant.

I should have never sold my metal dectector, I did right before moving to Houston, never really found much with it (Whites Coinmaster 5000D) it was state of the art when I got it. I lived in Colorado and had dreams of finding gold nuggets, not to be though, only found bottle caps, pull tabs and old metal scraps in the ghost mining camps I tried my searches at.
