... there seems to be a heat signature(darkening along the edge in question), and it appears to be over circulated for such a rare mint error.

Thanks guys for your input...I'm not an expert in this kind of error "clips" but from what I've seen here and this coin...this didn't look quite right...only thing that threw me off about this is the denticles and edges. they look odd...and also the die chip on the second "A" in "Canada"
Thanks again for the input...and thank you 1188howest for the kind words about the pictures.

The picture of the edge is the smoking gun here. Even though the 12-sided shape was formed in the collar when struck, and even if it did not have a strong Blakesley effect, the shearing of the metal, from one side through to the other, looks like no other clipped nickel coin I have seen. I concur with the others, post-mint damage.

Not round enough for a clip IMO. I think another nickel should be able to fit into the arc of the clip.

Just an observation, but doesn't the A in Canada appear to be present on the cut edge? Look at picture number 3...or am I seeing things?

There are several different types/combinations of clip types, including a clip from the edge of the sheet, which would have a straight edge instead of rounded.

change4thebetter... I believe some one cut this coin on purpose after it left the mint...See my revised version of your picture...Look at the ridge between the two arrows.

There is no Blakesley effect to be seen.
Therefore, with this much clip, the COIN, not the blank, must have been cut.
That = PMD.

Thanks so much again for all the information on this coin from everyone who replied.

The Diagram Wert is great and appreciate you going to the extent that you did for this.

I had my doubts about this coin before I posted it but I'm glad that I did post it...the "learning" aspect is what it's all about.

Take care

Rest in Peace
