A buddy found these somewhere and gave them to me. Why are they so dull and have no shine...they look nice but were they cleaned or something?

Yep, cleaned and with a harsh chemical. You see large cents like this all the time. Just about anything that you find under the kitch or bath sink will do the same thing to copper/bronze.

I did a test with a penny with vinegar and it turned out exaclty like this...all dull...i agree Rockdaddy...who would bother cleaning those..haha

Possibly cleaned using Cola. I once cleaned some pennies that way, and that's what they looked like. Lemon Juice does the same thing.
