GOLD - ValiantKnight - Who gives a darn about condition when its as rare as that? The history tied to that thing is great! Wont see another of those any time soon (cue Libius Severus hoard being discovered)
SILVER - Doucet - The provenance is important for a coin! all my trade coins have my name and the name of the guy I got them from - I hope - some day - that I will find one of my old coins with a list of people who have had it in the interim.
BRONZE - DougSmit - Love the error - just a beautiful coin and its provenance gives it a sturdy backing.

I am extremely reluctant to choose but ....
#1 Follis Severus II
#2 Agathokles AE24
#3 Libius Severus AE4
While I am dazzled by gold and silver coins I am partial to bronze coinage as being the coin of common usage. It is often so difficult to find just the 'right one'.

oooops, forgot to vote...hope it's not to late. man, this was a tough one, I 've got 9 medalist on my initial run through....so many AWESOME coins...many my favorites to see. so this time, anyone that I've never voted for before (to the best of my memory) got moved to the top.
gold: FR's hadrian...DANG...that is a gorgeous coin.
silver: MB's celtic stater...how cool.
bronze: eddrop's carinus

OK voting closed and result is in!
Such a good selection of coins, I wasn't sure whether the host should vote (and only would have done if there was a tie) but my favourites where DVcollectors amazing Sicily Syracuse, Maridvunums Aeolis Tetradrachm and Fvrivs Rvfuvs's Dupondius... and what a Dupondius it is (rare for me to find a Roman coin that is as aesthetically pleasing as a Greek)
GOLD - Furius Rufus - Trajan Dupondius
SILVER - Chrismat - Valens
Bronze - Valient Knight - Libius Severus
In total 13 coins received votes, all were good coins but it was a tough competition with a varied selection of fine pieces. Nice provenance to some of the coins and some unusual pieces from all corners of the Ancient world.

Thank you very very much. I greatly appreciate the 'Great Honor' you have shown to my dear old friend Trajan. As a very recent member to the Forum I feel hardly adequate to the task of running a "Smackdown". My area of concentration (for over 20 years) has been collecting Roman Imperial bronze issues to the exclusion of most everything else, I would feel much more comfortable as a spectator for awhile longer. If this is allowed I will happily decline the honor and pass to someone more capable. This was my first 'Smackdown' and I am still somewhat unsure of the nature of it all.

Congratulations to all the winners. FR your Trajan coin was fantastic and I look forward to seeing more of your collection. Maybe chrstmat71 or VK might want to run the next one.
