I was doing some CRH today and came across a almost perfect 2008 Canadian Nickel. It looks like a proof. Since I am from the US, I don't have a whole lot of experience with Canadian coins.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way I can tell if it's a proof or not? I am not even sure about mint marks with Canadian coins.

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

A 2008 proof will have heavily frosted devices, and be made of silver. It will not stick to a magnet.

Nope, no frosting...I'll have to check with a magnet. It is just very, very shiny.

Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a normal,though nice,circulation strike.

It could also have been removed from a set and put into circulation by someone who wasn't interested in the set or value, such as a kid. I've seen specimen quality coins in circulation on more than one occasion, both when I lived in Canada and here in the USA. Always makes me cringe a little and I rescue them most of the time. Some of my nicer finds include a 1909 VDB Wheat penny (Pretty roughed up, but still lots of original luster, a 1974 PL Canada Penny, and a 1967 PL Canada penny.
