Hello!

Picked up a 'medieval halfpenny' for cheap recently and found it was a Richard II rather than the usual glut of Edwards. Which is nice! However, other than that it's 'civitas London' and of "Rich..d Rex Angl" I can't get much further with it. Can anyone help narrow down a year range that's not just '1377-1399'...?

Many thanks!

Stephen

Although different styles of Richard II halfpennies are defined, it sounds like no one has done the work to assign them in order to different periods of his reign. How about you take up the reins on that task!
All Richard II halfpennies were minted in London, by the way.

As you say, styles are defined. After googling, it appears to be an intermediate issue, London mint (1377-1399 AD ; North 1331b; Withers Type 1)

Now, as to where the early, intermediate and late styles begin and end is something I wouldn't even know where to begin with...!
