I have been looking hard recently for coin to purchase...I am looking for some nice Greek Bronze examples and about half a dozen Romans (a variety of types and rulers) but also I have about 4 holes I need to fill in my medieval Britih coinage.

So I stumbled across a decent looking anglo-saxon sceat which looked interesting and I was about to purchase it but when I looked it up in Spinks it seemed to be mis-attributed.

Anglo-Saxon-Sceat

This coin is listed a S793 (which appears to be quite a different coin in character and design)

If someone could tell me what it is and what I would expect to pay for it I would be much obligied.

I worked it out after contacting the seller... he sent me back its definately S793 (840)

So I looked in my Spinks and it is S840... Because my spinks book is a few years old and his is up to date. It is as the type you linked to Rooneydog, the type listed under that number in my Spinks is quite different.

Thanks for the help anyway guys, I was unaware that they ever changed the catalogue numbers.
