Since I don't want to feel like I'm merely hoarding bills, I've decided to give my currency collection a clear direction by collecting by block and run. Basically, I want to only collect bills by their first block and first print run (and for each district at some point). I'm starting with Barr notes. Each one is from the first 640,000 notes for each block.

So, does anybody else collect bills in this way?

I know a couple of collectors who collect small size silver certificates by block. It gets very challenging when you are filling the last few holes.

Dear mabudi01,

I am also collecting $1 & $2 in the same way as you, but it does not matter the run.Just 2 pieces from each block (BEP & FW) in an CU condition.

I scanned the extra pieces in the following:

Hope you find what you are looking for.

mabudi01 & bero1!

Federal Reserve Notes are addictive, especially since older ones can still be found in circulation since they blend in so well with newer series (unlike the Big Heads in higher denominations).

Once you get the required time & quaity posts in there are several members who have quite a few to trade/sell like myself. I have quite a stack of notes that I accumulated over the past decade plus.

There are more ways to collect $1 FRNs than I can count.

What you are doing is a variation of some common ways to collect these notes and should be quite pleasurable and a little challenging as well. It is not fun to collect in a way that is too easy IMHO.

What you are talking about is what used to be called District Sets. Over the decades it has been "watered down" to mean any block from each District. But back in the day, a DS (District Set) was only the first block run of each District - usually the block ended with A. Example: a 1963 DS would look like this - AA, BA, CA, DA, EA, FA, GA, HA, IA, JA, KA and LA and all from the first print run was highly sought. You have started with one of the exception series - 1963B. And for star notes you go for the first print run of those as well.

Like I said, this should be relatively easy and a little challenging. I say relatively easy because I am comparing to some extremely hard ways to collect. I have helped many collectors over the past decades, so if you have any questions, just ask me.
