I have just recently gotten into coin collecting and have been focusing on Franklins. I've decided to broaden my horizons a bit and have decided that I would like to start on a Peace dollar set next.

I bought Burdette's book on Peace dollars and read it before I started looking at anything. I would like to assemble a set in MS63 or better, though it may be awhile before I take down the 34-S. I will probably do slabs, at least for the key dates, and possibly the whole set.

Any thoughts or advice?

Also, I have started looking for the 1921 and have been amazed at how awful the strike is on nearly every single coin I have seen. I think this may take a while.

Good luck! Last year, I started a Peace dollar set and I am about half way through. I can't offer much advice because mine are mostly EF to AU. But it is a fun set to collect!

The 1921 Peace dollar was the first year of issue for the new series of silver dollars. This also represented the only issue that was struck in high relief. Slightly more than one million coins were produced at the Philadelphia Mint during the period from December 28 to December 31, 1921. The coins would be released into circulation early in the following year.
In production, the high relief made the coin difficult to strike and caused excessive die breakage. The Mint adjusted procedures and began to strike the coins at lower pressure, which preserved the dies and allowed them to be used longer. Although the production problems were solved, this adjustment resulted in the most 1921 Peace dollars being weakly struck. The vast majority of coins encountered will exhibit a lack of detail at the centers, apparent at the hair near Liberty's ear and the feathers on the eagle's chest. ---- Guide to Peace dollars.

I also believe that the 1921 Peace dollars were intended as a commemerative or a medal and then the decision was made to continue the series as legal tender silver dollar
