I am looking at possibly buying a VAM, if it is in the top 100 how much should I pay over trend price? Or is there somewhere that I can see the value of each VAM? thanks

I agree, even in the top 100 and hot 50 they all vary in price depending on many factors..
Which are you interested in? Personally I find it more fun to buy raw MS Morgan's and attribute them myself.. Or with help here, lol.

Benchfreak,

If you have any Morgan or Peace dollars you already have your VAM. All are VAMs. A VAM is the cataloging of the die pair used to produce the coin.

Regarding the Top 100, several sell with no premium for the VAM and a few get moon money.

There is a book published annually of prices realized at auction and private sale for VAMs. The general rule of thumb when using that guide is 75% of listed price for certified coins (PCGS, NGC, ANACs) and 50% for raw coins. But if demand exceeds supply, then you may pay more than the listed price. There is no correlation between coin trend prices and VAM prices. The VAM collecting community is much smaller than the coin collecting community and generally only the VAM collectors will pay a premium for the variety.
