Found this 2004 D penny with the copper plate cracked/missing around about 1/3 of the edge on the front and the zinc core exposed inside. Where the zinc is exposed, some is missing leading to areas that are hollow under the copper plate. The edges of the copper plate are depressed into the cavity left by the missing zinc. On one spot on the edge beneath Lincoln's shoulder, almost all the thickness of the coin is missing. Sorry, but these are the best pictures I could take with my camera. What kind of error would this be and how much is it it worth? Thanks.
It is not an error. It is zinc rot. It is environmental damage. It is harder to find a zincoln in mint state than it is to find one like you have there.
