Man, this was tough, but I think I've got it! Matthias Corvinus, King of Hungary and Croatia from 1458 to 1490. Obverse: Madonna and child; MATHIAS D[EI] G[RATIA] R[EX] UNGARI... Reverse: St. Ladislaus; S.LADISL_AUS REX. Here's a different rendering of the same design:

But the way this appears to be a coin pressed into another disc, I wonder if this is some kind of copper electrotype of a 15th century goldgulden of Matthias Corvinus.

Good work!

I am also inclined to agree with you about the electrotype.
Probably worth doing for museum purposes in this case.

An electrotype is a reproduction of a coin made of two thin surface copies, one of each side, joined together, with some filler inbetween. If we're right, there should be a seam around the edge of this coin. This was probably not meant to fool anyone, but to be an example to show others what the original gold coin looked like. In Slovenia, this might be an interesting souvenir of a coin of the legendary Kralj Matjaž.

Check the weight of the copper reproduction against the weight of the gold original. If they're similar (+/- 0.5 g) then this is a weight meant to be used on a balance scale.

Meaning a contemporary coinweight? That is another good possibility here.
