Here's a very worn 1856 3d -is the 5 struck over something else ?

It doesn't seem to have the normal shape for a 5.

Every time I look at my 1855 groat it looks like 1855 / 66 - I suspect its just the font style of 5 used at this time.

I would agree it's probably the font style used.
