Hi I was hoping that someone would be able to help me with some background in regards this French medal.

It is 40mm and stamped Argent and seems to be solid silver. On the side there is a hand pointing a finger hall mark or maker's mark next to it

The text is in French and seems to pertain to the city of Lyon.

The only medals that I can find close to this are 2 by the artist A Poncet one which was struck in 1888 and the other without a date pertaining to the school of design in th ecity of Lyon which was famous for it's silk and textile industries.

Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks.

It is probably a Token from Lyon. Here is another http://www.numishop.eu/fiche-fjt_07...al_n_d_.html

The script on the reverse is an extract from a 16th Century poem by Clement Marot.

The tokens seem to have been issued by the Lyon Chamber of Commerce between 1835 and 1901 http://www.genealogie.com/lyon-6900...village.html
