Possible Greek Coin, Any Ideas? - Coin Community Forum

It will be my first countermarked coin. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? bobbyhelmet Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 2838 Posts	Posted 02/15/2013 08:45 am The top one is quite common and is only usually referred to as 'Emperor facing right', I think its difficult sometimes to be sure which Emperor. The bottom mark is much more interesting and I think its a 'Large Wheel' a little like these examples: http://www.romancoins.info/CMK-Lugd...g-Part2.html The 'Large Wheel' mark seems to be related to this very rare 'CCARN' mark: http://www.romancoins.info/CMK-Lugd...g-Part1.html Both seem to be Lyon marks but I don't know too much about these so could be wrong. I bought it from a UK seller with some other coins(hammered and early milled.) there was also another coin in a similar condition to this which I am pretty sure is Alexander the great. Coinage123 Valued Member United Kingdom 449 Posts	Posted 02/15/2013 4:59 pm I was quite pleased with them in the end, to be honest for roughly £1.25 a piece for 6 coins I think it wasn't too bad. I've been after a nice countermarked for a while and this on is pretty decent in hand. I have a few other lots I'm eyeing up which finish in the next day or so also.
