Hello! a selection of coins arrived in the post this morning and this was one of them. It will be my first countermarked coin. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? I have annotated the pictures to show the detail I can see in hand.
5.67 grams - 20mm

The top one is quite common and is only usually referred to as 'Emperor facing right', I think its difficult sometimes to be sure which Emperor.

The bottom mark is much more interesting and I think its a 'Large Wheel' a little like these examples:

The 'Large Wheel' mark seems to be related to this very rare 'CCARN' mark:

Both seem to be Lyon marks but I don't know too much about these so could be wrong.

Do you think your coin could be a Lyon Alter?

Thanks for the responses. As far as where it came from I am not too sure. I bought it from a UK seller with some other coins(hammered and early milled.) there was also another coin in a similar condition to this which I am pretty sure is Alexander the great.

I saw this up - quite tempted. I couldnt make heads nor tails of it so I decided not to consider it.

Its a counterstamp and those are pretty sweet to have. is it a female bust?

I was quite pleased with them in the end, to be honest for roughly £1.25 a piece for 6 coins I think it wasn't too bad. I've been after a nice countermarked for a while and this on is pretty decent in hand. I have a few other lots I'm eyeing up which finish in the next day or so also.
