(Please contribute suggestions)

Just for kicks and giggles, I'm proposing we collaborate to create a ridiculously, outrageously, absurdly HONEST ebay listing, just to see what happens. This would be something that would be the total antithesis of all the "Unsearched" and "Estate Sale" and " Indian penny Roll with 1916 (?) Mercury dime on one end" and " Wheat penny roll with 1909-S obv on one end and VDB rev on the other"...and all the other baloney-filled listings we're accustomed to seeing.

"Why do this?", you ask. "What's the purpose?"

Well, more than anything else...it should be a lot of fun! It'll give us the opportunity to poke some serious fun at all those sellers who operate on the edge of, or the wrong side of honesty. We could use this listing to lampoon many of their clever ploys designed to fool the foolish or inexperienced buyers on ebay. It won't accomplish much, if anything...it certainly won't make all those other guys better people or better sellers...it will just provide a seven-day-long counterpoint to their deceitfulness.

It will probably also prove that honesty doesn't sell as well as hype!

I'm going to list something...and I'll tell you what it is in a moment...and I'd like your suggestions on what to say in the listing, BUT FIRST, let me caution you, and this is IMPORTANT: Once I list it, YOU CCF'ers absolutely cannot bid on it! A couple of years ago I did something similar to this except that I didn't ask for any input on the listing. I just created the listing and then jumped on the Forum and said "look what I did" and before I knew it, Forum members were bidding on it! It was a nice show of support, but it led to questions of impropriety...and the item actually fetched me more $ than it probably should have. So when this listing goes live, feel free to watch....but don't touch! In its own way, this is sort of an experiment and if you bid on it or cause others to bid on it, it will taint the results, so "hands off", please.

So now to our listing: Buffalo nickels are about all I have and about all I know. I intend to list a full, 40 piece roll of FULL, 4 DIGIT DATE Buffalo nickels which will all grade VG or F. Every date and mint mark between and including 1930 and 1938 (including 1931-S!!) will be included. Shipping will be FREE. Standard 14 day return privilege. My photos will show one of those old-timey looking shotgun rolls (there's a reason for that) with a Buffalo nickel clearly showing on each end. Here is my starter title and starter description. Jump on in with suggestions for "improvement":

Title:

SEARCHED roll of FULL DATE 1930-38 Buffalo nickels! All dates & Mints included!

Subtitle:

NOT from an estate! From ME! VG-F cond. Includes 1931-S!

(Both title and subtitle, as I've written them, contain the max number of characters that ebay allows)

Description:

This is a thoroughly searched, full, 40 piece roll of Buffalo nickels containing every year and every mint mark between (and including) the years 1930 and 1938 - - " including the 1931-S and 1938-D! You will NOT find any gems in this roll, such as a 1937-D 3-legger or a 1938-D/S. This is NOT some mysterious estate sale! These coins were not found under the floor boards of an old farm house! These are simply MY nickels and came from MY messy stash of Buffaloes that I keep in jars and cans...and you can bet I looked all of these coins over very carefully...probably more than once.

Having done so, I can tell you that they're really nice Buffaloes, all in VG or F condition with FULL, 4 digit dates and no damage! There's even a Key Date 1931-S in there!! Wow! And if you're still not too excited about this - - " my shipping charges to you are FREE!! (Please note: 40 nickels means that there will be some duplicates - - " almost certainly the more common ones!)

If you absolutely require some intrigue in order to bid on this, please note that I have rolled the nickels up into one of those old-timey looking shotgun roll wrappers that were prevalent back around the time these nickels were being minted. I bought these wrappers, brand new, a couple months ago. Some people think that these rolls mysteriously enhance the value of the coins they contain, especially if they're scuffed and dirty looking. (If you would like your roll scuffed and dirtied, please be sure to mention that when you send your payment!)

My usual no hassle and no questions asked 14 day return privilege applies. Bid with confidence and realistic expectations!

You know, some scammer is likely to buy your roll, put the '31 on the end, rewrite your text and sell it as an unsearched estate roll!

But be sure and put in that these nickels did NOT belong to your Grandmother, who knew nothing about coins.

and be sure one of the pictures of the roll is one of you squeezing the end of it so you can clearly see the first nickel.

I think the general ebay populace would have a heart attack reading that description.

WeerdSteev,
Since your ebay name is buffaloreincarnations, does that mean these buffs are restored? If so, for honesty you have to include that.

TBJ17: I do sell a lot of restored nickels, but this roll will be fully ORIGINAL. For the record, nickels from the 1930s generally did not lose their dates. Also, a big clue that these are ORIGINAL dates would be the fact that I'm tossing around grades of VG and F. Those types of grades cannot be applied to restored nickels.

Honestly I was not. I have no idea about Buffalo nickels. I have a couple from various sources, but I do not actively collect them, and I don't know much about grading of them at all. Sorry for my ignorance. I thought I was adding 2 and 2 together to get 4, but it turns out I ended up with 3 and 1/3.

Haha! Okay, sorry! After I finished up writing that explanation I suddenly had this thought that you were gonna say, "I know. I was just kidding."
