Im a passionate collector of Celtic coins but I havent been collecting for very long...that being said ...ive been an ebay coin dealer for 12 years....mirrortree.....Celtic is my favorite area for now....The good coins are expensive but they are ultra rare and appreciate at a healthy rate. They also happen to be designed by metallurgical geniuses who had a very complex belief system. The designs on the coins are full of surprises and mysteries and do contain references to their kings. Keeping in mind that Celtic coins were only produced in the UK for about 150 years by about 12 tribes it is possible to have a collection of each tribe in bronze silver and gold. I tend to focus on the UK Celtic tribes but they were produced in Europe for several hundred years previously. The Roman invasion basically destroyed the Celtic coin culture and no more coins were produced after about 100 AD....There are lots of good books but I would recommend one or 2 in particular....1. the recent Chris Rudd book ABC of Celtic coins which runs about 100.00 and is a large coffee table size hardcover and 2...a smaller book ..the tribes and coins of Celtic Britain by Pudill and Eyre....Best dealers are Chris Rudd and Liz Cottam and also John Philpotts of Silbury Hill coins..on ebay..mike Vosper of vivienne5592 has a great selection..In general I would say that the Celtic area has very few serious collectors but it is a good area to be in for all the above reasons..Like their coins the Celtic Collectors are a rare commodity so Celtic buffs please respond ..... I'm brand new to this forum but I will contribute a lot I hope....

I only got my first Celtic coin a few months ago, a Billon Durotriges stater (The name Mike Vosper rings a bell, maybe it was one of his)

It is not an area I particularly want to specialise in but some of these coins (particularly with the stylised horses) are quite appealing.

I love to see some pictures of your coins :) and welcome to the forum :)

Thanks for the immediate responses and warm welcome within minutes!...Im definitely no expert on Celtic coins but I plan on learning a lot over the coming years. I've bought a lot of awesome coins from the UK dealers and a few from the french ebay dealers and I will photograph some of them and upload as soon as possible. For identification I think the ABC book by Rudd/Cottam et al cant be beat...its easy to use and contains pictures of 90% of the Celtic Uk coins as well as some Gaulish types...They dont value the coins but some of the established coin guides do.... such as the UK published ...Coin Yearbook......Meanwhile I will have to learn the forum system for uploading images ....first to change my icon and second to show you some coins from my collection to date.....and as well I've got a mysterious Roman coin I need help with

It couldn't be easier to post here... just click the upload image and it is self-explanatory. The only stipulation is the image cant be more than 100kb, and that can be rectified using the sites image optimiser.

I am sure someone can help you with the Roman coin, personally I am a jack amongst trades, master of none; there are some knowledgeable people around here though :)
