Hi, I once bought this coin, a few years ago.
All I know, is that it is Roman, but that's it.
I was wondering if someone could help me to identify it.
Anything is welcome.
I thought maybe it was Egyptian...

i would guess costantius ii.

can you tell what the legend is on the obverse (front)?

(looks like I can see "consta tiv" around the top?)

and on the reverse (back with soldiers) can you make out
the mint mark...the letters underneath them....SMK?

Chrsmat seems to be right - CONSTANTIVS NOB C? I guess. Either way, Constantius II.

The reverse is GLORIA EXERCITVS - Glory of the Army. Mint mark appears to be SMK indicating that it was minted in Cyzicus.

Thanks, you've put me on the right track! But the mint mark, I am not quite sure that the middle letter is a M. And I think I have found a photo of the coin you think it is, but between the soldiers is a single sticklike thing, not two...

I realise my photo's aren't as good as I thought. The mint mark has 4 characters. S ? K *capital gamma*

The coins were minted with 1 or 2 standards which is why you have been confused by it - you've gone to one with 2 standards.

mint mark will be SMKg (Sacra Moneta Kyzicus (gamma officina)).

Heres your ID and RIC#:
RIC VIII Cyzicus 32
Constantius II, AE4, Cyzicus.

DN CONSTAN-TIVS PF AVG, laureate head right
GLOR-IA EXERC-ITVS, two soldiers holding spears and shields with one standard between them. Dot on banner.
Mintmark: SMK gamma crescent.

RIC VIII Cyzicus 32, rated Rare.

Pretty cool - you got a rarer one to start with. But dont be fooled, the rarity here is questionable as the file lists other officinas - the rarity is probably in some very small feature and I'm guessing it's in the mintmark. Many of these were made at Cysizcus and a small difference between every other lots means that each one is listed seperately - if a die cutter puts the mint mark differently it will be listed as a variety and called 'rare' - in reality they are all from the same place and the same design.
