As a Valentines treat my wife hid a number of rolls of pennies around our place for me (so far I have found 26, but she won't confirm whether or not I found them all!). This was an extra nice surprise since pennies are no longer being given out at the bank. :)

My question has to do with 5 of the rolls in particular. They are wrapped in what appears to be a shrink wrapped transparent plastic which I have never seen before. In addition, they all seem brand new; two of the rolls have visible 2012's on one end, while all the other ends show the queen so date can't be determined.

Is this how rolls come from the mint? If so - does it seem likely that they are probably all 2012 (since she got them from the bank at the same time)? Should I open them to figure out the dates or leave them sealed?

Thanks in advance!

That's the way they came from the mint.
Probably all 2012's.
It is possible to carefully squeeze a few out through an end, then carefully put them back in. (But I wouldn't) Some people pay a few dollars each for those rolls.
What a thoughtful gift for a coin collector!

some pay a few dollars per roll and many many many others will pay $10 and up. Keep intact in a warm dry unlit place.

- Oh; some rolls are magnetic and others are non-magnetic, the official mintage numbers have yet to be announced to reveal the more sought-after type.
