Hey Guy's,
I am wondering if it is possible to have a penny struck in the wrong metal type. ? I am new here and have been reading and lurking for awhile, From what I have read the chances are not that great that this could happen. It more propable that it has been altered with. But I thought I would post a few pictures to see if anyone can tell anything from the pictures.
If the coin was plated, Would you not be able to see the metal beneath the plated metal if it was nicked anywhere on the coin.
The coin is in pretty good shape, A couple little marks here and there, But I can not see any color change on any of the tiny nicks.
Just looking for some expert opinions.
The pictures do not do the coin any justice, It looks better in person. It is the best I could get from my camera phone.
If
Thank you for looking and any feedback is appreciated.
Bruce.

I did a quick Google search and a 1979 Canadian penny should weigh about 3.24 grams. I'm not sure what a plated cent should weigh, though. Off metal strikes have been reported, so wait until someone with more knowledge of Canadian coins chimes in before you do anything. I'm not in any way an expert.

Oh and !

The first thing I would check is - is it magnetic?

If yes, then it could be one of these: https://goccf.com/t/140750

Thanks for the reply.
No, it's not Magnetic. I checked that earlier but forgot to put it in my post.
Size wise it's the same width and thickness.

It appears plated to me . If it was struck on a dime it would be magnetic . If a foreign planchet it might not be magnetic but would weigh different .
Rest in Peace
