This coin looks interesting eddio...I do know through looking at so many of these 2000's that for the most part the plating on this year is not the greatest...even the ones in "mint state".This one appears to have a "heat mark" of some sort....not sure if it's related but hopefully someone else might shed some light on this for you.

Very interesting and nice pictures.

The date and "Canada" end up with a bit of a doubling effect, too... nice. I've seen this on the odd coin before, or sometimes just on parts of a coin if I remember correctly. Newer pennies usually. And I think an earlier thread dealt with something similar but I don't know if the issue was resolved. Interesting coin!

On the 'Coins and Canada' web page, under errors, it shows one similar to this as, 'Deficient Plating' not sure if this is the same but, they look the same.

I was going to post the same question about a 1986 that I have that looks very similar. I dont see any heat marks on mine, which I would think should rule that out for both coins.....or maybe not. Secondly, in 1986 they weren't plated. Although deficient plating could explain the 2000, I find it odd that this looks so similar to the 1986 with no plating.

Looks very similar, middross. I hadn't realized that the effect went back as far as 1986. What exactly is deficient plating -- any ideas?

Nice...nice....like the 1986...and 1970....funny thing is that I have a 1976 that looks very similar to the last two posted. Very odd how this could happen...almost looks to be "melted"...not that I'm saying that they are...just has that look.
Interesting.

Hi eddio;

That 1970 almost looks like an acid/coke bath coin, the way the date and letters seem thinner and more ripply. Is that coin a little thinner or smaller in diameter? There's been a few of this type posted lately...
