Poll Question
Okay, so, as many of you may know of my ranting and raving about a $2 bill redesign with the next currency redesign, I have a question. I suggested the return of the Monticello on the reverse of the redesigned $2 bill and Jim Benfield, Executive Director of the Coin Coalition suggested a $2 bill redesign for the Series 2003 and Series 2003A of a Louisiana Purchase theme to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Louisiana Purchase with a map of the Louisiana Purchase and two figures representing Lewis and Clark on the reverse of the $2 bill which should have been done in 2003 with a complete redesign of the front of the $2 bill as well. I know the Louisiana Purchase theme is a bit late, but it could still be done, right? I don't see why not, anyway. I also thought that, since on the new $10, $20 and $100 bills they have different views of their respective buildings over the years of redesigns, so why not a different view of the Monticello on the reverse of the new $2 bills?
So, what would you want on the back of the new $2 bill?
(Sorry, I messed up and somehow locked the last topic and couldn'y figure out how to unlock it, so, here it is again)

I think the artwork on the reverse of the $2 bill is the best out there. Unlike other denominations, this is artwork rather than just a picture of a building. I do like the old Monticello as well so that was a tough call.
edit: clarification - I voted for the updated signing.

I would like to see a refresh. Give it the big head design and an updated image of Trumbull's painting. The two dollar note deserves a makeover, especially since it is going to see a lot of action when the one dollar note ceases to exist.

Getting rid of the one seems like there is going to be a lot of change in a persons pocket

Quote: Getting rid of the one seems like there is going to be a lot of change in a persons pocket That's why you increase the circulation of the $2 You must be psychic because I was just thinking about this the other day. what I think we should do is make the 2 w/ a rotating obverse(that's what you call the front of a banknote right? ) commemorating all the signers of the declaration of independence but don't change anything else about the bill. (in other words keep the reverse the same and keep the small portrait format with each of the different founding fathers.) Next, take the $5 dollar bill and get rid of the lincoln memorial and replace it with a rotating reverse of architecture in america. NOTE! I do NOT want there to be rotating designs on any higher denomination bills as that would likely increase counterfeiting. But I think it would be great for a $2 or a $5 as virtually no one would counterfeit them.

The $2 bill is currently my favorite. I'm only sad that it doesn't circulate more.

, miket! How many of said small purchases do you make? If I had to tell you how many times I've spent less than a dollar on any one thing in the past several years, it's probably counted on one hand.

I go out of my way to make purchases of less than $2.00 that way I can get back lots of change when I use a $2.00 bill. I guess I'm just weird

Well, I believe that after the Bicetnnial where they changed the reverse of the Ike, the half and the quarter, along with the back of the $2 bill, after the year 1976, when they changed the Ike, the half and the quarter back to their original reverses with their eagles, they should also have put the Monticello back on the reverse of the Series 1995 $2 bill. I know that the situation was a bit different for the $2 bill than the coins that got the "Bicentennial treatment" because the $2 bill was discontinued for a while. Then, from what I read, before the whole "dollar coin replacing the $1 bill" idea, reissuing the $2 bill was a way they were trying to save money, by printing less $1 bills, but it never caught on. You would think, if given the choice to embrace the $2 bill, or embrace the dollar coin, you would see most people jumping on the $2 bill band wagon. (But they should also resize the half, and maybe even reshape it, as I said, to save money on minting less quarters)

Quote: Probably from not trying to use the acquired change on the next transaction Almost assuredly. Perhaps I'm in the minority but change is just change for me. My biggest incentive for spending paper money is to get coin change to fill holes in my albums. Otherwise it just goes into a pile on my dresser after the day is over. Then back to the bank eventually. I will say that when I've traveled to other countries that have 1 and 2 [money unit] coins that I've actually use those for transactions, but it's mainly for small sight-seeing-ish purchases in the streets. Such as yummy, yummy beer. And it works out splendidly. Except that I end up with a pile of 1- and 2-Euro coins on my hotel dresser at the end of the night...wait a minute...this sounds familiar... guess it just is the way I approach money in general.

IMHO.Any new design of any bill will have to look like it is from the 1800s.
