Hello all,

I saw an ebay auction the other day that advertising SILVER Eisenhower dollars from 71-79. Well, the auction listed the years included and mint marks, and all were either P or D mint marks. I thought that the only silver ones were from the S mint? Were these dollars nickamed "silver dollars" even though they weren't silver? Thanks

1971-S through 1976-S Unc coins are silver and the proof issues 1971-S through 1976-S are silver as well. However, 1973-S through 1976-S proof clad coins were also minted. Silver issues only came from San Fran.

Some people do refer to Ikes as "silver dollars" although that is a misnomer in the fact that the general public never had silver Ikes, only clad. It probably just had to do with the fact that the size was essentially the same as a Morgan or Peace silver dollar.
