Hello all,
I had these banknotes passed down to me and was wondering does anyone have any information on them. I know they are not in the best of condition but do they have any value and if so where should I sell them or do I just keep and pass on to the children. Any help much appreciated and thank you in advance.
Ben

As pointed out by Broken-Coin not sure why they would issue 1942 dated emergency currency when the United States was circulating currency in 1941.

Emergency notes were issued starting in 1942 in the Philippines because of the disruption to the economy by this little thing you might have heard of called World War II.

The Phillipines are comprised of hundreds of islands. While the Japanese occupied the population centers, many of the islands were not. Even in the occupied portions of the country much of the pre-war civil government administration was allowed to continue to operate. This was particularly true in the outer provinces where the pre-war provincial government personnel remained in office with only minimal intrusion by the Japanese.

President Quezon created emergency currency committees in some of the provinces. These committees were authorized to issue notes in the name of the Philippine National Bank or the Commonwealth Government to pay the expenses of the government since they were cut off from the rest of the country.

Thanks for all the information Lettow, very intersting. I guess I got confused with Broke-Coins notes as it is printed victory before the date of my notes. Have done some more reading and now understand it some more. Is there any value to these notes or just the type of thing you frame and hang on the wall? Thanks again

The notes you have are fairly common and are valuable more for their historical than monetary value.

The Philippine Victory Series No. 66 was not issued until the Allied return at the end of 1944. The 1922 date on the note is the date of the general currency law and is not specific to these notes.

Really nice notes, I've seen them often in dealer junk bins not knowing what they were. *** Edited by Staff - Please Review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***
