Hi All,

I've just been going through some 20c pieces I've had sitting here, and have found three which have what I can only describe as a 'poorly defined rim' in the 3 o'clock position.

All have this 'damage' on the reverse - only one has it in the same 3 o'clock position (ie, not the corresponding 9 o'clock) on the obverse. The size of this poor definition seems to be the same on each coin. Others from the same year seem fine.

One is from 2001 (platypus) and two are from 2004 (small head).

Currently trying to get a good photo to show.

Possibly just damage, though none of them appear to be extremely worn or anything. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Daniel

2000 to 2004 20c coins often have weak rims - some look non-existent at times!!

Check the milling around the edge just in case you have a tilted collar coin - the milling will graduate from reeded to smooth in a roughly diagonal manner should you have a partial tilted collar. If the reeding is the same all round then it'll just be a weak rim strike.

Thanks for that information.

Apart from the rim definition, everything else seems fine, so it must just be a weak rim strike as you have suggested. Cheers!
