Krause: New Zealand 1/2 Crown 1933-1935 32mm Mine: 12pcs 32.3mm

the list goes on but couldn't be bothered to check any more but you get my

Sounds like all of those would fall into the common range. I'm not familiar with Straits Settlement and NZ coinage, but for US coins, those weights would be tolerated by the mint.

In your example the average oversize is only 3/10's of a mm, and with a electronic digital caliper in hand, the thickness of my little pinkie fingernail is over 4/10's of a mm.

I am guessing the Krause sizes and weights are accurate for the coins pictured, and it is possible one of the calipers is off a fraction of a mm.

(I just had to delete the balance of my reply as it started looking like a rant on the different readings one receives when more then one tape measure is used on the same project.)

Just to clarify on my first post I have 12 New Zealand 1/2 Crowns all measuring 32.3mm, I have 3 Straits Settlements Dollars all
measuring 34.2mm so it isn't a mint tolerance issue all are identical, also there is nothing wrong with the calipers as 90% of
measurements with krause information is correct. Can't put it down to anything other than these are errors in krause catalogs.

I've seen incorrect mintage information in Krause. Incorrect measurements wouldn't surprise me either.

Ever since Krause Publications was purchased by F&W Publications there have been more and more errors creeping into all of the Standard Catalogs. From my understanding last years catalog came with a DVD listing the information for all the countries accidentally left out of the catalog. Then you have the problem of space which has been causing them to drop more and more images and sub-types. People tend to be very critical of all the errors and the difficulty of getting corrections made even when we point out the errors to them. The reason for all these problems comes from being short staffed. Once F&W bought them they really cut the budget for the catalogs. KP is a very small part of their publishing empire and they really don't care about the problems. (Krause Publications really needs to be purchased by someone that will care about it.) The Standard Catelogs, 16th, 17th, 18th,19th, 20th, and 21st century, the German catalog, Unusual World Coins are all put together by a staff of 8 people. That is over 500 years of issues from all over the world. Tens of thousands of types, hundreds of thousands of date and mint listings, with pictures and values for about five grades of each listing publishing at least four catalogs each year. And you may have to include the three Paper Money catalogs and all of their listings along with that. (I don't know if they share staff with the coin catalogs) After they were bought as people left KP they were mostly not replaced by F&W.
