Heres the deal - Heres some coins. I want you guys to give me a value you think it would sell for on ebay, on a bad day. I want conservative estimates. This is for use in my catalogue so I can justify buying more uncleaned lots for myself!

I want honest responses - if its not worth anything then say!

Heres a few in contention and their IDs and rarity -

1.Constantine II, Lyons, left facing, Providentiae Caess:

( darn you mistrike!)

2.
Constantine II, Heraclea Provid - this is the same type that sold for $50 this week - but whats the average?

3.
Gratian, VOT X V MVLT X X

4.
A not so good Constantine II GLORIA EXERCITVS

Give-Me-A-Conservative-Value-For-The-Catalogue!

5.
This Pentanummium is probably Justin II - reverse is smooth

6.
Valentinian I - Constantinople mint

7.
My only front facer - Honorius, Constantinople

8. and 9.
Two at once - Crispus is 8 and Carausius is 9. These received more cleaning but you get the gist.

10.
Last one - my prized Leo and lion left, head facing right. So much nicer in hand - a bit cleaner than here, but there you are:

And thats batch 1! Ill post some more notable ones (mostly later roman ones but also a greek). Coming up next time - A constantius gallus, a marcian, a eudoxia and a theodosius AND MORE!

Thanks in advance!

Constantine II, always popular.
Gratian, not so.
Valentinian, common, and rarely sells well.
"Theodosian family~military attire, facing half right" always popular.
You would think Crispus would be popular, but alas not so, unless from London it seems.
Carausius with that reverse type, should sell well.
Leo should sell well, I sold one last year to a buyer form Spain.

4. $6.00
5. No value without obverse visable
6. $3.50
7. $6.00
8 & 9 $20
10. $25

ebay completed listings search is your best guide here but for LRBs prices are all over the place. Don't get too hung up on value, what is worth nothing to you is worth £30 to someone else and visa versa.

The coin you were watching earlier in the week sold for $50 but this one failed to sell at £20.00, IMHO its better:

Item No 170986043229

This one sold for £10:

Item No 330873855776

And this one for just £4:

Give-Me-A-Conservative-Value-For-The-Catalogue! Give-Me-A-Conservative-Value-For-The-Catalogue!

Item No 111009925289

This Leo sold for £15 in a 'Buy it Now' recently, would an auction raise more or less? Depends who wants one:

Give-Me-A-Conservative-Value-For-The-Catalogue!

Item No 261148623961

Carausius coins always sell well but low grade coins can be bought for low prices, this one sold for £5, again recently on ebay:

Give-Me-A-Conservative-Value-For-The-Catalogue! Give-Me-A-Conservative-Value-For-The-Catalogue!

Item No 300859782612

Maybe not what you wanted to hear but what I would consider average market prices.

Bobby - exactly what I want to hear! I'm not intending to sell any - this is more to keep a track of things. Thanks for the help everyone.

I couldn't comment on values because simply I don't know...

Thanks for this thread though, you showed me something I must have :) I don't have any front facing coins; so now I must find one... can someone point me in the right direction? Who produced front facing portraits aside from Honorius?

For AE Roman coins, this type was issued in the reigns of the family of Theodosius I (as I mentioned above) though he does not seem to have any for himself.

This comprises:

Honorius, Arcadius and his son Theodosius II.

This type appears in the reigns of the "Byzantine" (East Roman) emperors from Justinian I to Constantine IV.

My avatar is based on a Solidus of Constantine IV.

David - I politely asked a guy I bought a batch of 10 uncleaned coins from if he had any in his piles and he threw this in for me. Not great quality but the ones with the whole face are pretty pricey.

Thanks for the information... a quick search has shown me that there are not many of these coins around in good condition... That is aside from the Byzantine ones and the gold Solidus coins which seem the best place to find an example... I will keep this on the back burner until I find a nice one :)

Sorry for the off-topic, but its nice when someone surprises you with something interesting :)
