I can add the Indian Head semi-keys: 1869 - 6.4 million 1870 - 5.3 million 1871 - 3.9 million 1872 - 4 million 1876 - 7.9 million 1878 - 5.8 million These are what I'd consider to be the semi-keys. They all have low mintages compared to the rest of the Indian Head cents but aren't extremely scarce like the Key Dates.

With Lincolns as long as your including the 22 without the D, why not throw in the 09S/S, famous 55 Double Die, 72 Double Die, 60 D/D, 95 Double Die, 90S Proof no S. Then of course there is the 83 Double Die reverse, 84 Double Ear and on and on and on. Now to get even more wierd there is the 43 Copper, 44 Steel, 59 Wheat back. But of course the statement was Wheat Back Key Dates. The statement is rather odd if the 22 plain is added since it is an error coin. Also, as has been brought up so many times by numismatists, we don't have PENNIES, we have cents. They are called Lincoln Cents. Try a coin book for PENNIES. For some reason they all say CENTS. Of course that would make songs like Pennies from Heaven read Cents from Heaven. Penny loafer shoes would become Cent loafers. ETC.

Carl, I tend to agree with you, as I don't generally collect errors, overdates, nor variations.
However, the 22 plain and 55 DD seemingly always are included in a complete set of wheaties. They have spaces in my premium Whitman album. I wish they didn't, though, because there are other places I will be putting my money.

Ok Carl, I know what you're saying, but try this. Go to your local financial institution and ask for a roll of cents. Unless I'm your teller you'll probably get a blank look! If you do get a teller that knows what you're talking about, the roll you get (unless it's in one of those confounded plastic wrappers ) will say "Pennies" on it! I've always wondered about that... Rachel

Hey I was only kidding about CENTS not PENNIES. Like I said there are songs using pennies, stories about them, all kids say pennies and as noted if anyone goes to a bank and asks for cents they would probably get a blank stare. I mentioned it because there are actually people on these forums that occcationally rant and rave about the fact that we don't have pennies, we have cents. As to those stupid error coins in Albums, I too have that problem. My Whitman Album has places for the 22, 55DD, 72DD, 95DD, all the 82's, all the 60's, the 70S large and small dates. I actually wrote a letter to whitman sort of cussing them out about that. Of course they do the same thing in all their Albums. For example the Merc Dimes have to have the 42/41 and the 42D/41, 45 Micro S. And in my Liberty Head Nickel book there is space for the 1913. Can't find one of them lately.

I'd love to hear a reply from Whitman about that complaint. It's my understanding that the 1955 double-die was considered just an oddity until Whitman included a hole for it in its folder. Demand (and price for the coin) skyrocketed as soon as they did. The 1922 Pl. is a little different and I understand why it is included in the set.

To answer my own question: " What about a list of the semi-key dates for the U.S. Wheat Pennies?"
After some research: 1909 VDB, 1910-S, 1911-S, 1912-S, 1914-S, 1915-S, 1922-D and 1924-D.
Any other additions?

How about some key dates for the Lincoln cents? Especially since the US never minted any pennies.

Metalman, I was not going to rely to this one until you showed up.I knew you would straighten them out. " Pennies are all NON-CENTS", or is that nonsense? Sorry, Metalman, sure glad you have a great cents (oppsss) of humor! Ok, I'll go away now. Jim
