Don't know what it was struck through but it looks like a snake,very cool.

Very cool looking. Here's my guess: it is a small eye screw with the full image at the top above Liberty. It "migrated" through the metal during the strike process.

A keeper, IMHO.

curse my eyes. Is it raised or incused? If incused it looks like a bad counter stamp. if raised looks like a strange die break/crack?

Papatony...I have the hardest time to determent if it is raised or incused.Using my magnifying glass ,it looks incused.Using my USB microscope it looks raised.I think my eyes playing a trick on me ...lol
But struck throughs are usally incused ,right?

It looks a bit like a leg from an insect.Anyone know how I could find out what it is?

looks raised to me too. strange die chip or gouge?...its a head scratcher for sure

It's easy for my eyes to play tricks on me--I flip photos and see what happens.
If it were raised, I would think it would lessen as it passed through LIBERTY.
Interesting idea about the screw--I can almost see indentations from threading.
Whatever caused it, I would bet it happened during the strike--not PMD.

Judging by the shadows, the anomaly is incuse. I'd say struck thru.
