Hello! ever since I found I found my first Carausius in a "Old Coin" lot I have developed a real interest in his coins.
Over that period I have found out his coins can be rather pricey... I don't have loads of cash to splash so I think I have done quite well for the price I payed on this coin. I was out-bid on another (similar condition) AVGGG which I was a little disappointed about, I was lucky to spot this coin a couple of days after and managed to get it for around half the price of the other!
Including postage it cost me £28
I bought it as RIC 141 however because of the angle of the sceptre I now think its RIC 143.

Carausius AE Antoninianus, London, 3.61g 287-293 AD. Struck in the name of the Three Emperors (AVGGG). IMP C CARAVSIVS PF AVG, radiate and cuirassed bust right / PAX AVGGG, Pax standing left, holding olive branch and transverse sceptre. S-P across fields. Mintmark MLXXI. RIC V-2, 143; Sear -.
My-New-Purchase...
I now have both the PAX AVG and the PAX AVGGG in my collection!
(Since taking the pictures I have given the coin a little clean and it looks even better, I will update the picture when I get a chance.)

Very nice 123, why is the Britannic Empire not better know in UK history! Always puzzled me, very few people here know we actually had our very own greedy and blood thirsty mini Empire for 10 years at the end of the 3rd century

Really excellent acquisition Coinage123 - congratulations! AVGGG coins are hard to come by and are of great historical interest.

Go easy with the cleaning, the patina already looks fragile on the edges.

It is, I used a toothpick and a small brush(one used for cleaning electric shavers) and managed to remove the dirt from around the letters of 'AVSIVS' and also the white chalky deposit below the MIXXI. I managed to do it without damaging the patina.
