It will do if you have nothing else but there is the risk of causing corner folds and handling marks. The way I do it is keep them in BCW plastic holders and in armored brand USA currency portfolios. It organizes each note and provides adequate protection. Whitman also makes portfolios and their higher grade portfolios aren't bad.
You could also just put them in plastic holders and keep them in your wooden box if you only have several notes.
good luck!

In Mylar plastic sleeves for your more valuable notes. Mylar sheet is inert, and albums are available using this material. The stamp collecting fellas have been doing this for many years.

I use the Lindner Multi-Collect album and currency pages. Somewhat pricey, but very high quality, I like that the pages are rigid unlike most cheap currency pages. I prefer the Multi-Collect album because they offer so many different types of pages you can find one to fit about any odd shaped bill you find if you happen to collect world currency as well. http://www.lindner-original.de/bank...collect.html

I am not keen on vynyl pages. Over a number of years the the plasticiser which is included in the vynyl material to soften it, gasses out. The closest thing that the gas condenses onto are the notes themselves. They would act like a sponge. The mechanical part of the process is a bit like the condensation on a car window. The only saving grace is that the gassing is a slow process, so you should have some time to re house in some other material.
With coins, the fogging can be removed with acetone, but that treatment would be distastrous for notes.
Mylar does not gas out. Clear polypropylene sheet is also OK, but that stuff is pretty hard to find when used as an album material. I know of only one manufacturer of polypropylene album pages.
Go to your nearest friendly stamp dealer, they may be able to give you some more advice. I am not into stamps.
There is also some discussion on this subject in the stamp sub forums, here within the CCF.

Simply use Mylar D archival sleeves, put them into what ever you want (inert albums pages or a wooden box or a shoe box or whatever), store in a cool dry place and out of direct sunlight. IMHO.

Not an 1800's stage coach box but old cigar boxes. Should have mentioned that from the get go I'm sure.

@sel: I am glad you brought that up. I hadn't heard about vinyl pages being an issue, and they seem extremely common. I just did a google search, and only a few sites came up regarding the safety of vinyl pages. It appears that the general feeling of collectors is to avoid them for long term storage.

@miket: Here are a couple pics. The pages look fine for me, and I am not too concerned about the binder. I just used a regular 1 inch binder I had sitting around. There are also pages with larger sized pockets for large US bills. I don't have any, but I can jam in some foreign currency that I DO have.

So guys, are you saying that long-term storage in these BCW holders I have will damage my notes since they are not 100% inert? If so, means complete overhaul to Mylar, ah geez. Guess that's what happens when you're new to the hobby.
